Puerto Rico tint law, stated plain
What Puerto Rico law allows on each window, in bare numbers — 35% on the front side windows, 35% on the rear side windows, 35% on the rear windshield, and the rule behind them.
The numbers
The percentages above are how dark Puerto Rico allows each window to be. A lower number means a darker window.
The law, stated plain
Puerto Rico writes its tint rule into Article 10.05 of Law 22, the Puerto Rico Vehicle and Traffic Law — and it is one of the simplest rules on this site: one number for every window. No tint or other material may drop the visible light transmission of any window below 35% — front sides, rear sides, and the rear windshield alike, each stated here as 35% VLT MAX.
One-way mirror glass is prohibited outright. Factory-darkened rear glass and certified medical exemptions are the exceptions the law allows. Because the same figure covers the whole vehicle, there is no darker rear-glass allowance to trade against the front windows the way some states permit.
The windshield rule
Puerto Rico's 35% rule covers the windshield glass as well — no tint or material may drop any window, the windshield included, below 35% light transmission, and one-way mirror glass is prohibited.

Puerto Rico tint law — the questions everybody asks
What is the legal window tint in Puerto Rico?
One rule covers every window: no tint or other material may drop visible light transmission below 35% — 35% VLT MAX on the front sides, the rear sides, and the rear windshield alike (Article 10.05 of Law 22, the Puerto Rico Vehicle and Traffic Law). One-way mirror glass is prohibited.
Is 20% tint legal in Puerto Rico?
No. 20% is darker than Puerto Rico allows on any window — the 35% floor covers the whole vehicle.
Can I tint my windshield in Puerto Rico?
The same 35% rule covers the windshield glass as well — no window may fall below 35% light transmission, and one-way mirror glass is prohibited.
Does Puerto Rico allow a medical exemption for window tint?
Yes — certified medical exemptions are among the exceptions the law allows, alongside factory-darkened rear glass.
