Quebec tint law, stated plain

What Quebec law allows on each window, in bare numbers — 70% on the front side windows, no restriction on the rear side windows, no restriction on the rear windshield, and the rule behind them.

The percentages above are how dark Quebec allows each window to be. A lower number means a darker window.

The law, stated plain

Quebec's tint rules are set by the SAAQ (Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec) and turn on one measured figure: the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through, checked with a photometer — stated here as 70% VLT MAX. Nothing else may be applied to the windshield glass beyond a strip no more than 15 cm wide across the top.

The rear side windows and the rear window carry no darkness restriction at all. Quebec's rule is therefore a front-window rule: keep the glass beside the driver at 70% or lighter, and the glass behind the driver is the owner's choice.

The windshield rule

Quebec allows one narrow windshield allowance: a strip no more than 15 cm wide across the top of the windshield. Nothing else may be applied to the windshield glass.

Only a strip no more than 15 cm wide across the top of the windshield. Nothing else may be applied to the windshield glass.
