What is the legal window tint in Maryland?
On a passenger car — front side windows: 35%. Rear side windows: 35%. Rear windshield: 35%. No tinting material may be added to the windshield below the AS-1 line or below 5 inches from the top of the windshield, whichever is less.
Is 20% tint legal in Maryland?

Where can I get legal tint installed in Odenton?
Odenton has 1 window film shop listed on Film Slingers, ranked by rating, then by review count — nobody buys a position. Dynamic Detailing & Tint leads the list at 4.8 stars across 5 reviews. Every shop page carries its address, phone, hours, and a quote form.
Does Maryland allow a medical exemption for window tint?
Yes. A person who must be protected from the sun for medical reasons is exempt from the 35% figure if the owner keeps in the vehicle a written certification, in the manner and format the State Police Automotive Safety Enforcement Division requires, detailing the medical need for tint darker than 35% — signed by a physician licensed to practice medicine in Maryland (the State Police certification form is completed by a Maryland-licensed physician or optometrist). The certification lasts for the period the physician determines, and since October 1, 2025, if the physician determines the condition is permanent, it is valid indefinitely. The law sets no fee. It never covers tint below the AS-1 line or 5 inches from the top of the windshield, and the certified person does not have to be in the vehicle — the certification does.
What does legal tint cost in Maryland?
It turns on the vehicle, how much glass is being covered, and the film tier — dyed, carbon, and ceramic films price differently, and shops quote the finished job, not the film alone. The free 2026 Maryland Tint Law and Cost Guide by email (below) includes cost notes that explain what shops weigh, so a quote makes sense when you get one.
Maryland tint law
Maryland certifies tint at authorized inspection stations — and a repair order for tint goes through the State Police. The full guide states the law in plain English — fines, medical exemptions, and the windshield rule included.
